Ron Fleming has been in the VW scene for over 50 years. He has been a pioneer, an innovator, a VW lover, a VW/Porsche engine builder, broke countless records, and has been a hardcore VW racer for five decades.
In the sixties, Ron Fleming was one of the pioneers of hot-rodding Volkswagen.
He began with VWs at the age of 16. His first was a β54 Oval. A few VWs later, he worked as a VW mechanic with a β56 Oval. He joined the most iconic Cal Look VW Club, Der Kleiner Panzers (DKP). He brought a new hot rod engine philosophy to the panzers and was, along with other members, part of the Cal Look style. He also raced VW gassers in the early days, the Underdog and the Tar Babe.
With Greg Aronson, they established "Fleming & Aronson High Performance" in Anaheim, California. Later, Mark Thurber joined this venture and became FAT Performance.
"California Look" is still one of the most popular styles within the Volkswagen scene to this day.
