Drag Racing Returns to the Phoenix, Arizona Area
After a complete remodel and resurfacing job, drag racing makes a comeback to Chandler, Arizona
It was quite a shock when we learned that that a famous Arizona Drag Strip had closed down this past year. After 30 years, the popular Firebird Raceway's lease had run out, but big changes were just around the corner. Along with the name change from Firebird Raceway, to WIld Horse Pass Motorsports Park, there would be a new management team, and a new look to the aging facility. What is most important to the drag racing community is the condition of the track surface. During the past winter, the entire 1/4-mile has been redone. The first race using this new track surface will be Friday, January 24, 2014. One month later, we will see the return of the NHRA Mello Yello Carquest Nationals on February 21-23. For us VW folks, the SanTan Volkswagen Bugorama Phoenix will make a comeback as well, on Sunday, March 23. We are excited about all the new changes at this great track. See you all on the 23rd of March!
