This is one of the doors that once was attached to the Inch Pincher (#1) '56 VW gasser. The last time this gasser, or any part of it, has been seen was back in 1972.

After years of chasing down rumors, stories and tons of speculation, a little bit of VW racing history was made today, as part of the Empi Inch Pincher #1 was been found! In a small town 2 hours north of Phoenix, Arizona, this famous door has been hidden from view for over 42 years. And if it wasn't for a chance meeting between Paul Schley and the person who had this door didn't take place, this treasure find may not have ever taken place.Right now, all we can tell you is that this driver's door shows the last paint job that appeared on the Inch Pincher #1 car, before the body shell was sold and shipped to Mexico City. It is a well know fact that several sets of doors were used on both Inch Pinchers, both steel and fiberglass. What is interesting about this door is that it does NOT have the Empi logo on it, usually found on production doors in the jamb, near the latch assembly. To us, this means that this door was a pre-production, perhaps the first door to be made for Empi. Clearly, this door is the real thing. We will have a detailed story on how this door was found, and where it has been for the past 42 years, in a future issue of Hot VWs magazine. Stay tuned for that one!
