Anyone who followed the NHRA Modified Eliminator series back in the '70s, knows who Bear Barrilleaux is. But up to this past month, we had no idea just how much he has accomplished over his years of racing VWs, and running his VW repair shop in Hilo, Hawaii. You can read a full interview about Bear in an up-coming issue of Hot VWs. But for now, we want to let all of you know that this Wednesday, April 30, Bear is undergoing spinal surgery, to hopefully repair a pinched nerve that has limited his ability to walk properly. So as you go about your day, please keep Bear in mind and please send him your best wishes for a speedy recovery. Get well soon, Bear!
Bear's current ride is a tube chassis sedan, powered by a VW Pro Stock engine fitted with a shot of nitrous. This 9-second VW flat hauls butt!
