Of the over 500 vehicles displayed, seven of them were Volkswagens of the air-cooled family. The wild, "Surf Seeker" vision-turned-reality, one-off fabricated bus, custom built by Ron Berry, in Washington, Utah, was a big hit with the crowd. Also turning heads were the two Ghias shown, Mark Emerald's '68 candy red convertible from Anaheim, CA,, and the turbo'd '63 hardtop of Jason Smith, from Canby, Oregon. Others in the house included: Spencer McFarland, Carson, CA, '54 Oval Looker with matching Allstate trailer; Eric Goodman's '70 "Das Rod" hot rod Bug that won Radical Compact Custom; turbocharged '64 Notchback of Karl Heinlein from Anaheim, CA; and the turquoise/white '61 bus owned by AJ Bos, from Lake Havasu City, AZ.
Ron Berry's wild, owner-fabricated bus was a huge hit, and if there was trophy for Most Looked At Vehicle, Ron would've won it. He did, however, win Street Machine Custom at this Grand National Roadster Show.
All the way from Canby, Oregon came Jason Smith and his big turbocharged '63 Karmann Ghia, which won the Compact Custom class.
